FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Candles

Why are soy candles better?

Paraffin is a petroleum-based product, therefore, paraffin candles are not only highly unsustainable and responsible for many environmental calamities. It’s also toxic since burning paraffin candles release two types of carcinogens into the environment, known as toluene and benzene. On the other hand, soy candles are vegan, made from natural sources (soybeans), and burn cleanly into the air.

What's the best way to burn your soy candle?

Every time you light your candle make sure you have the wick centered and Trim it to ¼ inch, burn the candle until the wax is melted all the way across but no longer than four hours at a time, never move or handle the soy candle while burning and keep it away from drafts of air.

Massage Candle Workshop

What is a massage candle?

Massage candles are just like normal candles, except the wax can be used for a massage once warmed. The wax consists of all-natural oils and nourishing ingredients, such as raw, organic Shea butter, vitamin E, and Aloe Vera. Massage Oil candles are the best of both worlds: you get the ambiance and the massage. These candles are melted by the flame at a lower melting point and can be safely poured on the skin without burning. Join our massage candle making workshops and create a massage candle with your own essential oil fragrance blend.

Can you use any soy candle for massage?

Unless you’re into hot wax play, using soy or paraffin candles for massages isn't the ideal medium for your skin. These types of waxes harden as soon as they come into contact with the body while massage candles are made to melt down into body-safe oils that are meant to be absorbed by the skin. Massage candles are fantastic for massages, leaving no sticky residue, no sheets stained, and soft skin.

How to use massage candles?

Burn the candle until the wax is melted to the edge. Even though it’s pretty obvious, remember to blow out the candle flame before pouring the melted wax. Liberally apply the wax on the body avoiding the mouth and any open wounds. And remember external use only! We are always down for a sexy massage but when using a massage candle please cap it there.

At the end of your message, it’s up to if you want to keep the oil on or not — it is rich in vitamins and a great moisturizer, so if you leave it on it will leave your skin extremely soft. But if you’re not into the oiliness, you can wash it off in the shower.

Reed diffuser

How do you use a reed diffuser?

Fill the reed diffuser with the fragrance oil provided and insert the reeds or sticks. (for our Buoy | Floating reed diffuser we recommend 4 reeds for smaller spaces like bathrooms and 5 or more for bigger spaces) the reeds will soak up the scent and will start emitting the aroma. You can flip the reeds every few days or whenever you notice the scent fading. When throwing out old fragrance, please do not pour the oil down the drain, but rather in the trash.

Are reed diffuser sticks reusable?

Once reeds have soaked up a certain scent, you cannot use them for another scent. The scent that is already absorbed into your reeds will mix with the new scent and could produce undesirable fragrance combinations. If you were to reuse the reeds with the same scent it will not be possible either, as the reels/sticks become clogged after prolonged use.

When do you have to remove your reed diffuser sticks?

You should replace your reeds if they’re completely saturated with the old, if you switch to a new scent, or if the reeds have become clogged with dust. The life duration of the sticks is about 2.5 to 3 months.

Candle Care

How often should I trim my wick?

Trim the wick before or after every burn, to 4 mm. Keep the candle clean from any wick trimmings.

How to light a candle when the wick is too short?

The best way to light a candle when the wick is too short is to either use a large match, or turn the candle upside down and let the flame reach the wick.

How to fix buried candle wicks?

Generally a buried candle wick, or also known as a drowned wick, occurs when the wick burns down faster than the wax evaporates, causing it to drown in the melted wax. You can try removing some wax, but chances are it will occur again.

Why is my candle smoking?

If the flame is flickering or smoking, check for a draft from wind or traffic. Your candle could also be smoking if the wick is too long. If so, extinguish the flame and trim.
